Need an alternative for that Gibraltar Airfare? - Try the UK to Malaga route (Malaga airport is on the Costa del Sol in Spain). The trip from Malaga to the Gibraltar frontier is approximately 2hrs by car and you may be able to pick up a cheaper flight via this route, but then you have the added cost of the transport down to Gibraltar. There are also flights to Gibraltar from Madrid. Once you arrive in Gibraltar and land safely on our unique airstrip, your next destination is but a stones throw away as Gibraltar is merely 3 square miles in size and takes 'ten minutes' to get anywhere. Some hotels will provide a courtesy bus to collect you from the airport and take you directly to your hotel. Getting around Gibraltar Gibraltar’s bus system is very reliable, affordable (60p for a single ticket anywhere) and comfortable with the bright blue busses operating every 15-20 minutes. Bus number 3 will take you from the frontier and airport to the town centre and across Gibraltar to the southern tip, Europa Point and back. Number 4 will pretty much take you all over the main areas of Gibraltar, including the Westside where Morrisons supermarket is and St Bernard’s Hospital (our main hospital). Number 4 will also take you to the Eastside of the Rock where the beaches are.
Bus number 9 is a quick bus that takes you to the beginning of town from the frontier and airport. A mini bus, number 2, will travel along the town areas and up into the old upper-town areas of Gibraltar. There is also a red double-decker bus, number 10, one of which has an open top and is ideal for a tourist ride. This bus will take you from the frontier/airport to the lower part of town. The bus station is directly opposite the Airport, as is the Taxi stand and a car-park. Buses start operating from 8.30 am until 8 pm. Click here for a detailed Bus Route
