Climate in Gibraltar

Positioned at the tip of southern Spain, with Tangiers just a short ferry ride away and Malaga accessible by a two hour drive along the Andalucian coast, Gibraltar enjoys year-round sunshine tempered by the cool breezes of North Africa.

Summer brings an average of 10.5 hours of sunshine a day. Winter can be a mixture of fine, wet and cool weather. On average, only 30% of days are classified as ‘wet’.

Warm throughout the year, with hot summers and mild winters, summer (May to September) has very little rainy days and practically non in the months of June to August when temperatures can rise to an average of 26ºc. August is also a favourite month for humid days when the Levanter cloud is a frequent visitor.

Recommended clothing for visitors is lightweights for summer and medium for the winter months. A raincoat and umbrella are also recommended for winter as our rain showers can be very heavy at times.

The pleasant temperature of the water in Gibraltar makes it ideal for swimmers and divers. Due to the 300+ days of sunshine per year, the beaches are very popular and even in January it is quite possible to pick up a suntan!
